Just wanted to let you know that 'gardian angels' do exist and we have one in form of a sponsor , JOHN P.  from California makes a wonderful donation about this time over the years. As if he senses , when we are in pinch, surprises us volutarly . THANK YOU JOHN! You sure help us keep going.

APRIL  2006

You bet I've been listening.

Franklyn MacCormack was one of the mainstays of my 4 years at Northwestern. I fondly recall many a night having his dulcet tones accompanying me as I studied long into the wee hours of the morning. Somehow I never got around to my studies or assignments until late in the evening or the early hours of the morning.
Oh, Evanston, being the national headquarters of the WTCU, was a dry city in those days so I couldn't blame the bars there for my getting to my course work so late. Perhaps I spent too much time in the gym, or with coeds, or with my uncle Eddie "Pianola" Barnes who emceed the show nightly at the Club Alabam on Rush St.
Anyhow Mr. Mac, Wayne King and the Meisterbrau Showcase and I became nightly companions.  I did meet him at the WGN studios in '61 or '62 ~ probably '62 as several of us from the N U Athletic Dept were there for P. R.

 [MARCH 9th]
GREAT MEMORIES
Loved your interview with Franklin MacCormick , the sound of his voice brought a world of memories
Remeber growning up listening to his show on WGN radio in Chicago.  First as I remember was
the Reserve Show Case and later the Meister Brau Show Case.  He was formerly with Wayne King both
as an anouncer and read poetry to music like the "Melody of Love" wich was done that night reading with the
band. Remeber his readings of Don Blanding and many others.
The nite of the closing of the Aragon on that last night Franklin MacCormick and Cliff Mercer announced the
program for the Waltz King..  I was listening the nite the closing of the Aragon with Wayne King and he did the
Melody of Love
I have a recording of that hour long broadcast and could burn to a CD and send to you if you would be interested.
Again thanks for bringing back some great memories.
I just found your site and will try to listen often.  Again let me know if you want a copy of the Aragon broadcast.

BobMayhew    [Jackson, Ohio USA]
You really made my day.....Thanks again...BM

WE THANK YOU TOO, we had plans way back last year to find more poems read by Franklyn MacCormack
and air it in the wee hours like he did, we are very sure most people will enjoy it as much as it was way back.
[Franklin MacCormick=Franklyn MacCormack he was known as both] WELCOME NEW LISTENER!

Hi,
This is what we have on this.to say; we have 3 LPs of this recording,
For the simple reason, most of them are different in condition for different cuts,
It had been a favored recording by DECCA [STEREO DL75134] Volume 2, GOLDEN FAVORITES
Wayne King & Orchestra cut 4 on the A side of the LP. Narrated by Franklyn Mac Cormack;
 'WHY DO I LOVE YOU',

Wayne King copied the idea of narrating it himself too sometimes, do to its popularity.

IT WAS FIRST READ AS A POEM OUT OF DESPERATION TO LOOK TO FILL AIR TIME by Franklyn
IT WAS A HIT.
At later times FRANKLYN used BILLY VAUGHN's LP as accompaniment while reading  poems on air.

Greg Sherlock was 17-18yrs of age working on first assignments, when heard, that Franklyn McCormack
was going to to promote MEISTER BRAU at a liquor store in WOODSTOCK , IL. in 1969.

GREG Sherlock's request for an interview with Franklyn MacCormack was accepted .
It was aired first in
WALWORTH , IL. WE STILL HAVE IT, COULD AIR IT FOR YOU TO
LISTEN TO, IN THE EVENING IF YOU LIKE., TELL ME WHEN ARE YOU
HOME? www.rwpr.net/programguide.htm  see March 8th.2006
An ORLANDO, FL. collector also have it, we are checking on it. Also we can produce a copy for you too.
THANK YOU FOR TUNING IN & MAKING RWPR.net YOUR MUSIC CHOICE!

PS:Franklyn Mac Cormack passed away in 1971 on  June 12th. he was married to the famous brew company's relative,
so he had 10 yrs.of solo sponsorship for his midnight show.   ....' The MEISTER BRAU SHOW CASE'.....
while the puplic mourned for him, WGN  assigned Cliff Mercer to continue the show for awhile.

Hi Greg, ...I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful show you did on me this afternoon. I was totally trilled by it. You put together a dynamite presentation. Hearing all that music in one place & listening to your kind words about it was such a treat... I received calls from many of my fans & friends who heard it, all extremely favorable......I have heard my music on air for many years, but this was in many ways one of the greatest highlights of my career......Great job & thank you, Richard. __________________________________________________________________________________       _____

Dear Richard,... So glad to hear to have pleased you and gave your fans and friends and our listeners an insight to your work. We owe you a personal interview that was suppose go with this to finnish the hour, but with all the construction around us, hardly any way to avoid noise interference. ..But we will expand upon this to make it even better and something to cherish for you later on even more.... We are looking forward to receive a few voice overs to promote your TOOTSIE TUNES CD along with 'Tootsie' woofing along, we predict you'll go a long way, especially with new Christmas release for 2006.

Dear Alexa & Greg, ....Please forgive me for taking so long to thank you for taking time  and trouble to mail the CDs. I have enjoyed the DON CHERRY tribute  and was glad to have it. I have listened live, but the sound on the CD was excellent, and Don sounds as good as he ever did, if not better. I also greatly appreciated having  a copy of your tribute to me, and I'm very honored that you created that show. As you know I did a phone interview with Bill Miller and I think we had a good conversation. I'm afraid I've missed it on the air, but did hear  one he did with KEELY SMITH, that was lot of fun and brought back memories of "old" Vegas......I have been packing all day, preparing for my cruise on the Crystal Harmony, beginning tomorrow in San Francisco. I'll be entertaining on board in Alaskan waters for about a month.... I'll miss being able tune into RWPR during that time, but you can bet I'll be telling all the passengers about you... I was hoping to send some material to you before I sailed, but it will have to wait till I get back. You may or not find it interesting, but we'll see.... THANK you for now. Keep carrying the torch for good music and thanks again

We did appreciate hearing from Charlie Shaffer [pianist /composer] and certainly a good word from him to the passengers on Crystal Harmony about RWPR.net will bring about new listeners, who were not aware of us before, Thanks Charlie!.and Have A Great Time!....

We replied in kind:...Dear Charlie,...We were pleased to hear from you, we were afraid not to do justice to your artistry..and to hear your work copied back on a CD may not be a great experience as performing in person.... JULY 2005

July has brought another STAR to the Remember When Radio's Music Library. FRANCINE CHERRY  has sent us a sample CD by JACKIE CARLYLEwho is a beautiful and incredibly talented singer/songwriter of our time. Her original lyrics are inspired by personal experiences. We had featured her song "My Father's Spirit" on Father's Day dedications, which made me cry and want to listen to her selections over and over. It reminded me of my father passing away years ago, do to an illness, that took the mind and capabilities away of a fantastic creative mind of a superb fine artist. WE ARE HAPPY TO HAVE JACKIE CARLYLE AS OUR PICK OF THE MONTH ARTIST.

She wrote to Greg Sherlock: .....Alexandra wanted permission to play my song from my CD "Into The Lightand I gladly give it. Thank you for making me your highlighted artist for July, I feel honored to have my songs played on RWPR & VSFM as Radios selections. I also gave permission to Alexa to play the "Diamond Cutter" as an introduction to one of her pages at VSFM. looking forward to get to know you more in the future...... "When I started to write, I did it because I wanted people feel less alone in the world. I wanted to leave myself open for  words come through me to express things, that other people had hard time expressing. I never went into it for the money. If that came, so be it, that would be unexpected. I will do anything for charity, if it helps someone somewhere, I am happy.".......

JACKIE CARLYLE is a pure diamond among humanity, we are happy to have her in our Hall of Fame.

JUNE 2005

It seems we are meeting up with celebrity artist left and right. Like we said, we do appreciate being discovered by the artists we feature as by listeners alike.

June 26th our programming pushed the Big Band Jump way into the afternoon.  A listener ROY HAPWORTH from Bristol, ENGLAND got worried and wrote to us, asking if he got the  time right , he was waiting for the show an hour[they are 6hrs ahead of us there] we've apologized and to all of you this time around, but at the same token we got to know of an avid listener overseas.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

At the same time we just picked up our mail at the post office and long behold a wonderful and unknown listener to us made a generous donation to the REMEMBER WHEN MUSIC maintenance. Just when we needed support so much. THANK YOU ever so kindly Mr. JOHN C. PLUT from Daly City, California  USA in behalf of the Remember When Music Network and other listeners , you had been "God Sent".

Our  big time celebrity visitors were DON CHERRY and his`lovely wife, FRANCINE.

Giving us a generous supply of their new CDs , so we were able to do the Salute on June 12th 2005.

A listener: ANN from Nashville, TN. USA wrote:  Greg,

I just wanted to thank you for the tribute to Don Cherry. It was fabulous. Like many of us I remember when Band of Gold came out in 1956.I lost track of him until I came across his web-site last December. I ordered all of his music and begun a wonderful friendship with Francine and Ron over the phone. We have had many wonderful conversations. Francine is a tireless worker for Don and so heartwarming to see a wife so dedicated to her husbands's talent. Don's voice is truly a gift and I applaud you for introducing him to another generation of fans. I hope you will do another show featuring Don.

I was wondering also how can I find out on what station your show airs in Nashville. I have caught  Don Kennedy and Bill Miller on WAMB but may be  I am just not tuning in at the correct time to catch your show. Thank you for the wonderful our.

Thank you for your kind compliments. The SHERLOCK SHOWS are not syndicated as the others. We are too busy running REMEMBER WHEN PUBLIC RADIO on the Worldwide Net, so you can hear us even in Nashville.

Look who flew in our door through an e-mail, a famous pianist and vocalist,

CHARLIE SHAFFER an artist with an incredible talent.

Charlie Shaffer wrote:  Dear Greg,

I just found your site while doing a search on Al Alberts.

THIS IS EASILY THE  BEST MUSIC SITE CURRENTLY OPERATING,

THAT I KNOW OF. I used to listen to Chuck Cecil until our Las Vegas affiliate

changed formats. Now I can hear him again. I was a fan of "Harmony" until KABL

stopped streaming. When they resumed, they were not carrying it. I'm glad its coming

here. Everything I have heard here 24/7 is  just right. Keep it up, and many thanks!

  ________________________________________________________________________

I have thanked him for his donation toward programming, he responded.......

_________________________________________________________________________

CHARLIE SHAFFER responded in kind.......

Dear Alexandra & Greg,

Thanks so much for the note. I didn't list any requests, because I could not improve on your

programming as it is. Now that you mention it, though, I will comment that I particularly like two

singers from the late 50's, early 60's era, JESSE BELVIN and BROOK BENTON. I'm referring

to Belvin's RCA material and Benton's Mercury records. Not necessary the hits, but lesser heard

stuff off the albums, or B sides. That something I have noticed about your site, you don't only play

the big ones, you give us seldom heard records by good artists.

I have always liked  the FOUR ACES. They had a knack for picking the right songs, then singing

the heck out of them. I'm disappointed to hear that Al & Stella are not doing any new shows.

I didn't hear that many of them, but enjoyed the few that I did hear.

From time to time I get inquiries about the 4 Aces from around the world. This because on my

web-site there is a picture of me with them, I think maybe when the people do a search on them,

my site may turn up because of that picture.

...They appeared at the Sands Hotel here in Las Vegas in 1983. I was playing there myself at

that time and of course attended their show....Stella was in the dressing room at that time, and

I didn't get to meet her...but we hung out with the guys at the bar for a few minutes. ...

They were extremely nice, and autographed my "Best of the 4 Aces" LP......

I presented AL with an album I had done that year which included "IT'S NO SIN" with me singing

all the voices , 4 Aces style. ...... A couple of weeks later, I got a package in the mail from him,

including a nice letter about my album, two solo albums by him , and some sheet music of a song

he wrote.  A Real Class Act.

I returned from China last week to find an e-mail from a man in Amsterdam asking for a print of

that picture and info how to contact Lou and Sod. Of course I don't have any such info, but did send

the picture. SUCH IS THE POWER OF THE INTERNET. Without it I wouldn't be able to hear RWPR.

Naturally I would be flattered if you use my e-mail on your site, and of course you have my permission.

ALL THE BEST, and keep on, keepin' on ... CHARLIE

PS: I have done 2 or 3 interviews with Bill Miller over the past 3 years, but could never listen to his show

until now. WHAT A TREAT. I LOVE THIS SITE!

________________________________________________________________________________

And WHAT A TREAT YOUR WORDS ARE TO US and a treat to get to know YOU and your artistry

again.   We at RWPR planning a tribute to CHARLIE SHAFFER 's many fold talents.

Dear Greg, ......just returned from Portland, OR where we were appearing aboard the river boat cruise

....Nope!!... We have not released the Country album in CD or DVD form. I agree with you.  It was a

GREAT album... and the tunes and musicmanship was very good, too...but, the general public really

turned deaf ears toward that one! Mostly because it merely said.." Music in the Country Manner" on the

album cover. The followers and fans of the RMO got scared when they've seen the word "Country".

I guess they thought it would be a lot of twanging guitars etc....... Who Knows!

Take care..... I'm only home for two weeks and then it's on the road again....

Sincerely , JACK MORGAN- Russ Morgan Orchestra

BOB POMISEL SALUTES US AGAIN from Satellite Beach, FL. USA

Hi FOLKS and especially Greg Sherlock...

I listen to that Fantastic Music you play, and it brings back memories of my brother

and me growing up in the Bronx. What Great Times. The music really got me inspired,

I started playing the Guitar and Sang, met some other guys that we were into music and

formed a group. We didn't do anything with it though, just for our own entertainment

plus anyone wanted to listen. Thanks again!

_________________________________________________________________

THANK YOU BOB, many of you will notice the more you listen with us, you not only

turning pages in your photo album, the music will create great emotions and active

participation in singing along and dancing. Others just getting used to this Nostalgia.

NORM at Power Solutions, Inc. in Titusville, FL. USA keeps us on 24/7

we hope more of you get the same idea too.

  • NORM writes again........Greg,

You really took me back to my days at Northwestern doing an all nighter and listening to the

Meisterbrau Showcase with Franklin McCormick in '59 and '60. He kept me awake as I hit the

books after hitting the tackling dummies during football practice during the daylight hours.

He had a voice and a half, didn't he? Almost made me pursue a career in radio.

HOW ABOUT AN HOUR OF LOUIE, SAM and the WITNESSES?

I listened to a DJ in NYC, William B. Williams, who was / is a legend in the industry.

His "Battle of the Baritones" every Saturday was something to behold - if one can behold a

radio broadcast. Too bad some of these early DJ broadcasts were not recorded same as

the old radio 1/2 hour and hour long variety shows.

You might consider putting together something of this nature.

There were some awesome female band vocalists. Jo Stafford, Helen Forrest, Kay Starr,

Kay Armin, Peggy Lee (my all time favorite), Julie London ( what did Jack Webb have?)

could go on and on.

____________________________________________________________________

THANK YOU NORM, as always it is a delight to read your mail.

We will see about highlighting your favorite female vocals and Pull a LOUIS Hour together.

Greg's Interview and BIG BAND  delivery is underway.

  • You also had a Q? might interest others too: HOW DO I MAKE A DONATION

if I don't want to use PAY PAL? Well...... do this ...make the check out to Greg Sherlock/RWPR

address to: PO BOX 95 CRESCENT CITY , FL. 32112 USA

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

ELIZABETH HORVATH, wrote from Budapest, Hungary Europe

Alexa your relatives told me to check out your web-site and listen, I did not know what to expect,

but I'm so pleased that I have been exposed to a new way to listen to music, delightful. I'll be

tuning in whenever I can. Most of us speak English, no problem but I'm looking forward to the

European bi-lingual program that you hinted coming soon.

You have designed a great web-site, once again GOOD LUCK! and say Hello to the others involved.

THANKS ELIZABETH, please tell more of your friends to listen

  • MS. PEGGY BONZO writes again from Merritt Island, Florida USA

Thanks for coming back online. I love the music of my childhood....music my parents had on the radio.

I would love to call in requests but....but Greg gives the numbers before I can reach paper and pen.

Sometimes he says the numbers really fast and doesn't repeat them and I can never get the whole

address or telephone #. Could you please, at your convenience send to me the request phone # and

your e-mail address or ask Mr. Sherlock to repeat the numbers.

 ____________________________________________________________________

NO PROBLEM  PEGGY, here is a secret for you.....if you are listening through the web-site , shrink

the Media Player to the "Lunch bar" at the bottom of the Window, between the Start to the left and the

Time to the right. You can cruise all the pages and it won't effect the music.

The GUEST REGISTRY in the Navigation Bar, has room for selection or simply any E-mail address

at the bottom of the pages get your selection to us faster, then

snail mail and the address and phone # is listed: 1-386-749-1003

Music 4 All Network/RWPR  c/o GREG SHERLOCK PO Box 95 CRESCENT CITY, FL. 32112 USA

we are looking forward putting your request together. The Music Heritage Library at your service FREE.
